Vice President, Software Engineering

Job Description

Skylo, a global Non-Terrestrial Network service provider, is seeking a Vice President of Software Engineering to lead its globally distributed software engineering team. This role is based in Espoo, Finland, requiring onsite presence three days a week, but Skylo is open to considering candidates willing to relocate. The VP of Software Engineering will be responsible for the design, development, and productization of Skylo’s in-house software across 3GPP and cloud application technology segments.Skylo offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, monthly allowances for wellness and education, generous time off, and the opportunity to work abroad temporarily. • Lead the architecture, development, and productization of Skylo’s software products.
• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and security best practices.
• Design software products for network deployment.
• Champion CI/CD, DevOps, and automation.
• Define and execute the long-term software engineering strategy.
• Drive software innovation in areas such as NB-IoT over satellite and cloud-native network functions (CNFs).
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing software engineering team.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and accountability.
• Work closely with Product Management, Network Operations, and IT.
• Engage with third-party vendors and partners.
• Manage the software development budget.

Requirements:

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 10 years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record in building and scaling cloud-native software systems.
• Experience with Kubernetes and microservices architectures.
• Experience in real-time network management, OSS/BSS platforms, or IoT cloud services.
• Strong programming expertise in Python, Go, or Java.
• Deep understanding of NB-IoT, LTE, 5G, or satellite communications protocols.
• Strong grasp of security best practices.
• Experience in leading global teams.
• Excellent communication skills.
