Core Software Engineer (C++) - Remote at ClickHouse

ClickHouse is seeking a Core Software Engineer (C++) to join their remote-first, global team. The engineer will focus on optimizing their open source and ClickHouse Cloud offerings. As part of the ClickHouse Core Performance team, the engineer will analyze and optimize the performance of the core ClickHouse database, ensuring that the database performance does not deteriorate over time by extending existing and adding new performance tests.

What will this role involve?

• Analyzing and optimizing the performance of ClickHouse database.
• Working on query optimization, distributed query optimization, relational operators, caching, and low-level optimizations like SIMD instructions.
• Extending existing and adding new performance tests, based on real-world or synthetic datasets.
• Debugging performance issues encountered by customers.
• Collaborating with other core teams to assess the impact of new features on performance.
• Working with the open-source community by resolving issues, reviewing PRs, and answering questions.

Requirements:

• Solid professional software development experience in C++.
• Experience with Unix Systems.
• Strong knowledge in database internals and design.
• Experience in performance engineering.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well within and across engineering teams.
• Readiness to work with the open-source community.
• Strong problem-solving and production debugging skills.
• Passion for efficiency, availability, scalability, and data governance.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.
