dbt Labs is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to contribute to building and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure services that power their platform. The engineer will collaborate across multiple teams to design and implement foundational services that enhance the product's performance and enterprise readiness. dbt Labs serves data-driven organizations, enabling them to make decisions with trusted data. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with Product Management, Product Design, and Infrastructure teams to solve complex technical challenges, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to engineering best practices.

What the role involves:

  • Building and maintaining backend services that scale with the growing customer base.
  • Developing APIs and system architectures that support high availability and performance.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Contributing to engineering best practices, mentoring junior engineers, and participating in design and code reviews.
  • Debugging production issues and optimizing system performance using observability tools.
  • Working with technologies such as Python, Go, React, Postgres, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with a strong background in backend development.
  • Proficiency in designing API-driven applications using REST and/or gRPC.
  • Experience building scalable and secure distributed systems.
  • A systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, and a sense of ownership.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with fast, iterative delivery.
