Sotheby's is seeking a Sales Tax Manager to oversee the management and compliance of US resale and exemption certificates across multiple states and jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of sales and use tax statutes/regulations, resale and exemption certificate requirements, and maintain accurate records while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and processes. This role is central to the Tax function within Sotheby's and integral for global operations.
Manage the collection, verification, and renewal of resale and exemption certificates.
Ensure compliance with state-specific tax laws and regulations.
Maintain an up-to-date database of all resale and exemption certificates.
Collaborate with internal teams to resolve resale and exemption certificate issues.
Prepare and submit required documentation and reports to state tax authorities.
Stay informed about changes in tax laws and best practices.
Provide guidance and training to internal teams.
Prepare detailed supporting documents for filings.
Maintain a repository of sales tax exemption certificates.
Assist with special projects.
B.S. degree in Taxation or related field (CPA or CMI preferred).
6+ years of professional experience.
4+ years of technical sales & use tax knowledge in a multi-jurisdictional tax environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong Excel skills and MS Office proficiency.
Experience with multi-state sales and use tax matters using Vertex.
Experience with SAP (a plus).
Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
Ability to independently manage assignments in a dynamic environment.
Proposed base salary ranging from $95,000-$140,000.
