Job Description
Sotheby's is seeking a Business Director to join their New York Luxury division. This role involves driving financial results, growth, and profitability for the Jewelry, Watches, Handbags, and Sneakers departments. The Business Director will partner with department specialists, focusing on P&L management, pipeline management, deal making, and sale execution. Sotheby's is looking for someone who can think analytically, synthesize information, and proactively solve problems.Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the pipeline of business opportunities and deals.
- Managing and tracking all Hong Kong Luxury auction consignments.
- Developing financial models for auction consignments.
- Preparing client-facing deal communications.
- Negotiating with consignments, vendors, consultants, or other third parties.
- Supporting annual budget planning and regular forecasting.
- Translating financial results and KPIs into operational recommendations.
- Managing sale and department expenses.
- Developing plans for Sotheby’s inventory.
- Acting in a client-facing capacity and troubleshooting escalated issues.
- Maintaining oversight and billing for non-standard transactions.
- Reviewing competitive analysis and market share reporting.
- Researching potential revenue streams and developing business plans.
- Managing efficiencies, integration, and adoption for IT improvements.
Ideal candidates will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of experience in business management, banking, finance, or consulting.
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Prior deal or contract negotiation experience.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Confidence as a team player.
- Interest in art or luxury objects is encouraged.
Sotheby's offers:
- A proposed base salary range of $80,000-$100,000.
