Contractor: Fullstack Software Engineering Services at Newsela

Newsela is seeking a Fullstack Software Engineer Contractor to deliver high-quality features and APIs powered by ML/AI models. The engineer will work across the stack, focusing on scalable backend services and collaborating in an Agile environment. The platform handles user interactions with Newsela content at scale.

The Role Involves:

• Designing, implementing, and maintaining robust APIs and backend services for ML/AI.
• Contributing to frontend feature development using Next.JS and React.
• Writing high-quality, testable code.
• Taking end-to-end ownership of feature development.
• Collaborating with ML/AI and other teams for sprint planning.
• Partnering with Product Managers, Designers, and QEs.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of backend development experience with exposure to frontend.
• Self-direction and proactive problem-solving skills.
• Experience building and scaling REST APIs and designing data models.
• Solid understanding of relational databases.
• Comfort collaborating with sibling engineering teams.
• Experience integrating with AI systems (a plus).
• Comfort working independently and in cross-functional teams.
• Embracing Agile methodologies.
