Job Description
Philo is seeking a Backend Software Engineering Manager to enhance its billing system. The role involves technical leadership, system design, and collaboration with various teams to optimize billing performance and user experience. The manager will spend approximately 80% of their time on hands-on technical tasks and 20% on team management and coaching.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership to the billing team.
- Enhance, implement, deploy, and monitor the Philo multi-biller billing system.
- Collaborate with partners to engineer billing platform solutions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across marketing, support, finance, and data science teams.
- Drive continuous improvements to the reliability, performance, accuracy, and security of Philo’s billing service.
- Build and enhance tools to proactively monitor and quickly troubleshoot issues.
- Help build rock solid reporting systems for finance and compliance teams.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- 2+ years of software engineering management experience.
- Experience with subscription and/or payment management providers (Stripe preferred).
- Experience within product/billing platforms (RokuPay, AmazonPay, Apple IAP, GooglePlay IAP, or Vizio IAP a plus).
- Familiarity with payment networks, card authorizations, dunning policies, refunds, chargebacks, and reversals.
- Proven track record of building highly efficient and highly available software using Ruby/Rails, JavaScript/TypeScript, Golang, Python, Java or similar programming languages.
- Experience operating in cloud computing environments using modern software deployment technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, AWS).
- Experience working with large amounts of data and making data-based decisions.
- Experience and aptitude for collaborating and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of billing/subscription ecosystem trends and changes.
