Job Description
Groupon is seeking a Business Development Consultant to join their team in Sydney. This is a hybrid role, requiring office attendance three times a week. The Business Development Consultant will be responsible for identifying and closing new business opportunities for local experiences on the Groupon platform. They will receive hands-on professional sales training, covering customer relationship building, sales strategy, and sales psychology.
  • Seeking out new business opportunities by targeting SMB merchants offering local experiences, using cold calling, consultations, and closing deals.
  • Developing a deep understanding of each merchant’s business, including their experiences, target demographics, competitive advantages, and revenue drivers.
  • Applying deal structure and strategy knowledge to achieve both Groupon’s and the merchant’s goals, maximizing profitability.
  • Leading contract negotiations, including managing margins, discounts, and other key terms.
  • Consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Working closely with Merchant Development teams post-sale to ensure smooth account transitions and alignment on merchant strategies.
  • Driving market growth by bringing in high-quality merchants and increasing revenue.
Groupon is looking for someone who:
  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree or has relevant work experience.
  • Has 2-3 years of proven success in a sales role, ideally in a specific territory or product.
  • Has experience in inside sales (via phone, email, and social selling).
  • Understands transactional selling and are comfortable working with SMB accounts.
  • Has demonstrated success in meeting sales quotas, handling negotiations, and solving problems.
  • Is able to make sound sales decisions based on instinct and judgment.
  • Has a strong sense of accountability and can deliver results.
  • Is flexible, adaptable, and comfortable with change, finding creative solutions in challenging situations.
  • Is resilient, inspiring passion in others and taking full ownership of your performance.
  • Can balance multiple priorities effectively while maintaining a high standard of integrity and work ethic.
  • Is an excellent listener, and also assertive, persistent, and persuasive when needed.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms is a plus.
