Staff Electrical Engineer at Outset Medical

Outset Medical, a pioneering medical device company revolutionizing dialysis, seeks a motivated Lead/Staff Electrical Engineer to join their Hardware Engineering Organization. This role involves product development and sustaining activities for complex hemodialysis systems.

The Staff Electrical Engineer will oversee a team and be responsible for designing hardware components, generating specifications, and leading system and subsystem integration, verification, and validation efforts.

The individual will be a hands-on technical lead, capable of designing electrical circuits, writing specifications, test procedures, generating design output files, and adhering to Outset’s quality system requirements.

• Designing and developing electrical systems from board to system level.
• Providing technical leadership to team members.
• Facilitating board bring-up, testing, and debugging.
• Collaborating with outsourced engineering firms for PCBA layout and manufacture.
• Firmware development in C/C++ on ARM/Cortex-M processors.
• Participating in design reviews and FMEA analysis.
• Developing specifications and test protocols for design verification and compliance testing.
• Performing hardware testing for medical safety and EMC standards.
• Communicating status updates to engineering and program management teams.
• Interfacing with various departments and external entities to ensure compliance.

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering (or similar), Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of electrical engineering product development experience.
• At least 2 years in projects for medical applications.
• Experience developing electrical systems in a cross-functional team environment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
