Peak Energy is seeking a Junior Lawyer for its Tokyo office. The successful candidate will support utility-scale and commercial/industrial projects on a regional level, reporting to the General Manager in Tokyo, the regional HQ in Singapore, and the General Counsel in Singapore. This role involves preliminary project screening, managing asset acquisitions, ongoing project monitoring, and general company secretarial duties.
Responsibilities:
- Preliminary project screening and pre-bid due diligence (focus on land and permitting issues)
- Managing and negotiating multiple asset and share acquisitions or renewable projects
- Ongoing project monitoring
- General company secretarial duties and approvals
- NDAs and client onboarding
Requirements:
- Native Japanese speaker
- Qualified in Japanese law (preferable) or a common law jurisdiction with knowledge of Japanese law
- Bilingual in English (able to translate legal documents and communicate with English-speaking team members)
- Experience in a multinational in-house legal team or working with foreign clients in a domestic or international law firm
- Have experience and knowledge of land deals (preferred)
- Understand investment schemes such as Silent Partnership and Limited Partnership (preferred)
- Ability to work in a small, dynamic, and scaling team
