Finance Assistant at Ably (UK)

Ably, a company powering realtime digital experiences, is seeking a Finance Assistant to join their dynamic Finance team. This role involves taking ownership of the bookkeeping function and working closely with the Finance Manager, Senior Financial Analyst, and VP of Finance. The Finance Assistant will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial reports, ongoing control activities, and optimizing processes.

Responsibilities Include:

• Overseeing and managing bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, fixed asset register, and VAT/OSS returns preparation.
• Handling invoicing and payments, maintaining revenue records, processing customer and supplier invoices, and assisting with billing queries.
• Assisting with payroll and expenses, ensuring accurate and timely processing of staff wages, and reviewing employee expenses.
• Reconciling financial accounts, including bank statements and credit card statements.
• Contributing to the month-close process and gaining exposure to annual accounts preparation.
• Strengthening financial controls, ensuring compliance with internal processes and accounting standards.
• Supporting financial analysis and reporting, providing ad-hoc support to the wider Finance team.
• Optimizing finance systems, maintaining and enhancing finance tools and software, and improving workflows.

Requirements Include:

• Proven experience as a Finance Assistant, Bookkeeper, or similar role, ideally in a fast-growing startup or scaleup environment.
• Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
• A proactive attitude and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
