Job Description
The AI Security Institute is seeking a Criminal Misuse Workstream Lead to build and lead a team focused on evaluating and mitigating societal-level harms caused by advanced AI systems, particularly in criminal activity, radicalisation, social engineering, and fraud. The role, within AISI’s Research Unit, reports to the Societal Impacts Research Director.Responsibilities include:
- Building and leading a multidisciplinary, mission-driven team.
- Developing a strategy for a crime and social destabilisation research agenda.
- Developing evaluations to assess the capability of Frontier AI systems.
- Overseeing a portfolio of research projects.
- Disseminating research outcomes to government and the wider community.
- Forging relationships with partners in industry, academia, and government.
- Contributing to AISI’s leadership team.
Ideal candidates will possess:
- A track record of ensuring positive outcomes from frontier AI systems.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver scientific breakthroughs.
- Experience mentoring junior team members.
- Previous research experience with frontier AI systems.
- Commitment to improving scientific standards and rigour.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience working at the intersection of criminal activity technology, including digital platforms and artificial intelligence.
