Smarkets is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead and scale their engineering teams. The Head of Engineering will report to the COO and will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology, culture, and team structure at Smarkets. The ideal candidate will steer architectural and strategic decisions that fuel long-term business growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Set the engineering vision and roadmap.
  • Drive architectural decisions for scalability, reliability, security, and efficiency.
  • Oversee end-to-end software development processes.
  • Build, hire, and mentor high-performing engineering teams.
  • Foster a strong, communicative, and collaborative team culture.
  • Optimize engineering processes, from code quality to cybersecurity.
  • Manage compliance, infrastructure, and internal technology systems.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to align engineering priorities with business goals.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years in software development, with 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Proven track record in growing and managing engineering teams.
  • Extensive backend experience with scalable, low-latency systems.
  • Strong capability in architectural decisions and technical strategy.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
