Engineering Manager

Job Description

PayPay Card Corporation is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a Web Backend engineering team. This role involves ensuring timely and high-quality deliveries, overcoming communication challenges, and navigating a constantly changing environment. The Engineering Manager will act as a language and cultural bridge between the team and stakeholders, requiring conversational Japanese abilities.

The Engineering Manager will contribute to organizational changes and technical challenges, bringing ideas to sharpen the company's vision. They will support team members, coordinate with stakeholders, and enhance the development process. The role also includes enabling people growth, contributing to the technical roadmap, and addressing pain points in development and developer experience.

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting the team to ensure timely and high-quality deliveries
• Assigning team members to appropriate projects
• Coordinating with stakeholders, potentially in Japanese
• Identifying and addressing pain points hindering development
• Enhancing the development process
• Enabling people growth through practices such as efficient 1:1s
• Supporting the end-to-end employee lifecycle
• Contributing to the technical roadmap

Requirements include:

• 2+ years of experience leading web application engineer teams
• Past experience as a software engineer (backend or frontend)
• Proven records of significant contributions to scalable architectures and system designs
• Solid task definition and breakdown skills
• Good stakeholder management, coordination, and conflict handling skills
• Business-level English and conversational Japanese
• Focus on people growth success
• Ability to efficiently follow up on progress and blockers
• Genuine care for continuous improvement and developer experience
• Interviewing experience
