Engineering Manager at PayPay Card

PayPay Card Corporation, established in 2021, is seeking an Engineering Manager to help with internationalizing its engineering divisions and improve scalability, maintainability, and performance. The Engineering Manager will lead a Web Backend engineering team, ensuring timely and high-quality deliveries while overcoming communication challenges in a constantly evolving environment.

The Engineering Manager should be able to act as a bridge between the team of English speakers and various Japanese-speaking stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to drive organizational changes and address technical challenges in a fast-paced environment. Their ideas will be encouraged to refine the company's vision.

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting the team to ensure timely and high-quality deliveries.
• Assigning team members to appropriate projects.
• Coordinating with stakeholders, potentially in Japanese.
• Identifying and addressing pain points hindering development and developer experience.
• Enhancing the development process to suit the team and sustain development.
• Enabling people growth through practices such as efficient 1:1s.
• Supporting the employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding.
• Contributing to the technical roadmap of the team and tackling technical debt.

Required Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience leading web application engineer teams.
• Past experience as a software engineer (backend or frontend).
• Proven record of contributing to scalable architectures and system designs.
• Solid task definition and breakdown skills.
• Good stakeholder management, coordination, and conflict handling skills.
• Business-level English and conversational Japanese skills.
• Focus on people growth success.
• Ability to efficiently follow up on progress and blockers for ongoing tasks.
• Genuine care for continuous improvement and developer experience.
• Interviewing experience.
