Job Description
One Acre Fund seeks an Agroforestry Director to lead its agroforestry and Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) initiatives. The director will address challenges such as extreme poverty, climate change, and biodiversity loss. The role involves strengthening existing programs that serve over 2 million farm families and produce 70 million seedlings annually through 2,500 local nurseries. The director will oversee a dedicated international agroforestry team and co-lead embedded agroforestry teams in country programs, reporting to the Impact Director.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and refining country-specific strategies to enhance existing programs and maximize impact.
- Assessing levers for achieving scale, cost-effective impact, climate resilience, and ecological restoration.
- Leading external engagement and building relationships in the agroforestry and climate sector.
- Expanding the network of funding partners and securing funding.
- Exploring programmatic and technical partnerships to improve program quality and identify new opportunities.
- Identifying, piloting, and scaling new investments to improve program impact.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of leadership in agroforestry, restoration, or related domains in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- University or advanced degree in agroforestry, ecology, restoration, or related fields.
- Familiarity with nature-based carbon projects.
- History of collaboration with actors in the forestry and landscape restoration sectors.
- Experience launching new programs or building partnerships.
- Experience managing high-level teams and coordinating scalable programs.
- Data-driven decision-making skills.
- Experience with multi-year, multi-project budgeting and planning.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
- English fluency; Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Chichewa, or Amharic preferred.
