Job Description
Stellic is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to drive upgrades to its backend architecture and enhance the engineering team's capabilities. Stellic's platform transforms the student experience, providing tools for degree planning and career path development. The company partners with top institutions and supports over 1 million students.
Role Involves:
- Working closely with founders and product managers.
- Designing and implementing scalable backend architectures.
- Building and maintaining clean APIs.
- Developing and optimizing database schemas and queries.
- Mentoring other engineers in best practices.
- Designing robust testing strategies.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer.
- Strong ownership mindset.
- Deep curiosity and customer empathy.
- Ability to plan and manage technical aspects of project execution.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience with backend engineering using high-level programming languages and frameworks (Python/Django a plus).
- Experience with ORMs, RESTful APIs, background jobs, real-time streaming (DRF, Celery, Channels a plus).
- Experience with single- and multi-tenant architectures.
- Advanced skills in cloud deployment and hyperscalers (AWS a plus).
- Proficiency in designing and optimizing SQL databases (PostgreSQL a plus).
- Experience implementing secure AuthN/AuthZ systems.
- Experience implementing search engine capabilities (ElasticSearch a plus).
- Experience with asynchronous / event-based programming.
- Strong background in API design and documentation.
- Solid understanding of software testing, CI/CD practices, observability (AWS CodeDeploy, Sentry, Grafana, Prometheus a plus).
- Proficiency in building and managing data orchestration pipelines.
