Senior UX Designer

PLOS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to open science, is seeking a Senior UX Designer. This role is fully remote within the US.

The Senior UX Designer will be responsible for problem-solving and refining user experiences through research, data analysis, and testing. They will collaborate with product managers and engineers to define problems, scope projects, and ensure designs are feasible and implemented accurately. The designer will also maintain visual consistency across all touchpoints and contribute to the in-house design function.

Responsibilities include:

• Taking ownership of projects from discovery to delivery, prioritizing the user experience.
• Using prototyping to test and visualize hypotheses.
• Collaborating with Product Managers to define problems and scope.
• Partnering with engineers to ensure design feasibility and precision.
• Maintaining visual consistency across all touch points.
• Collaborating with the Head of UX & Design to establish the in-house design function.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Senior UX Designer.
• Experience working in an agile development environment.
• Industry experience in applying design knowledge (graphic, interaction, and service design).
• Proficiency in designing user interfaces and fulfilling user needs.
• Knowledge of graphic design principles, including web typography and color use.
• Experience collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to simplify complex data into understandable forms.
• Experience working to WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate standards into team projects
