Magazine Designer/Art Editor at Newsweek

Newsweek is seeking a Magazine Designer/Art Editor to contribute to the visual output of its flagship magazine. The role is pivotal in managing the production cycle, from layout to print, and requires close collaboration across various editorial channels.

Newsweek is a global media organization recognized for its thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video content, reaching millions across print and digital platforms.

Role involves:

• Designing weekly long-form feature stories and editorial layouts for Newsweek’s print magazine.
• Overseeing the smooth flow of each issue through the production cycle, coordinating with editors, art director, and photo teams.
• Working closely with the editors and art director to ensure each issue is visually cohesive and on-brand.
• Maintaining and evolving the magazine’s visual identity while responding to editorial needs and breaking news.
• Commissioning and art-directing photography, illustration, and infographics.
• Contributing to the visual planning of feature stories, covers, and special issues.
• Preparing files for print production, ensuring layouts meet technical and editorial standards.
• Supporting content adaptation across digital formats when needed.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of professional experience in magazine or editorial design, preferably in a fast-paced, weekly or daily newsroom.
• Exceptional layout skills and a deep understanding of publication structure, grid systems, and visual hierarchy.
• Advanced skills in Adobe InDesign.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Proven ability to manage multiple pages, deadlines, and collaborators under pressure.
• A portfolio demonstrating strong editorial design and layout.
• Excellent written and spoken English and flexibility in working hours.
