Convera is seeking a Senior Counsel/Attorney to advise its Canadian and US affiliates. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in payments/fintech law. This role involves advising the business on legal requirements, representing the business in contract negotiations, providing general corporate legal support, representing the business before Canadian financial services regulators, advising on data security and privacy requirements, managing outside counsel, and interfacing with a global legal and compliance team.
- Advising business on applicable legal requirements relating to Canadian MSB registration, US Money transmission, Canadian Retail Payments Activity Act, derivatives law compliance, anti-money landering, and sanctions.
- Representing business in connection with the negotiation of vendor, customer and partner contracts.
- Providing general corporate legal support to cover a variety of topics including HR, corporate secretarial support, and marketing and branding.
- Representing business before Canadian financial services regulators.
- Advising business on Canadian and global data security and privacy requirements including GDPR.
- Managing outside counsel that provide support and advice in all areas of the business and related litigation.
- Interfacing with a global legal and compliance team to coordinate consistent best legal and compliance practices.
Requirements: - Admitted to practice as an attorney in Ontario
- Relevant financial services experience as an attorney
- 7+ years of experience
- Experience with Canada MSB requirements
- Experience with Canadian derivatives
- Experience with US law money transfer and derivatives.
- Experience with GDPR and Canadian privacy requirements
